Ever since I can remember I've heard the comment that there is "no difference" between Canadians and Americans. I respectfully beg to differ as there is a difference on so many levels! We have unique Canadian culture consisting of Canadianisms, a Canadian perspective on world events, Canadian cuisine as well as products and foods only available in Canada. This blog is dedicated to celebrating all things Canadian from "my perspective" as a Canadian. Please enjoy your visit and be sure to visit often.

Americans should never underestimate the constant pressure on Canada which the mere presence of the United States has produced. We're different people from you and we're different people because of you. Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is effected by every twitch and grunt. It should not therefore be expected that this kind of nation, this Canada, should project itself as a mirror image of the United States.

Jack Layton Green House Tour

Canadian politicians like all politicians get a fair amount of criticism from the general population. They certainly provide ample content for commedians and blog fodder for bloggers. Recently New Democrate Party (NDP) leader Jack Layton (Member of Parliament, Toronto Danforth) has been in the news with the announcement of his recent diagnosis of prostate cancer. Canadians countrywide are sending well wishing for his speedy recovery.

What some may not know about Jack Layton is his active evironmentalism that starts right in his own Toronto home shared with his wife Olivia Chow (Trinity-Spadina MP). Their home has become a green home. Not only is his home energy efficient but it is also eco-friendly. I find it extemely encouraging to see a fellow Canadian retrofitting their home to reduce their carbon footprint the way Jack and Olivia have done. It is even more impressive to see a politician following an eco-friendly, socially responsible lifestyle. Here is a video clip of Jack and Olivia's green house.
