A recent study by the Canadian Centre for the Study of Living Standards has found that Toronto is the most miserable city in Canada1. Apparently Toronto ranks rather low on the happiness scale, scoring 4.15 out of 5. Reasons stated for the low happiness score was a lower sense of belonging to local communities combined with a higher stress level.
The results of this study has me scratching my head, pondering. From this Canadian's perspective, Toronto is my favourite city. About the only negative thing to say about Toronto that I can come up with is lay off the horns! Seriously honking the horn the way many do in Toronto is down right impolite. I think the study missed the little pockets of local communities within Toronto as well. It is quite reasonable to expect the stress level to increase somewhat in any city but the stress level can be quite high in small, rural communities as well. Just try to get decent, high speed internet service in rural Canada and you will see your stress level superceding that of city living! To brand Toronto as the most miserable city in Canada is really a bit unfair!
