Happy New Year!
As Canadians enter into the year 2012 I can't help but wonder if it will really be a good year or not. During the election campaigns, Prime Minister Stephen Harper promised no new taxes or increase in taxes. Then I saw a news segment a couple of days ago where although it was termed as being taxes EI premiums and CPP contributions were increasing. Well I don't care whether you call it a premium or contribution, the bottom line in Canadians are seeing an increase in taxes. You can call a sow's ear silk but it is still a sow's ear! There is no doubt about it, thanks to Harper most Canadians will have less money in their pockets. What does this really mean though? You see less money in Canadian pocket with more money going to the government is fine and dandy except less money means those Canadians are not going to be spending as much. I fear the Canadian economy is going to be rocky for quite some time. It's too bad that 2012 has already been greeted in with the broken promises of the Conservative government!
